Negative No. 2154/2010.10

A set of seven photographs, 24x30cm, produced in 2020 on the basis of a portrait from 2010.

I shot Zenek's portrait spontaneously. I remember that we met, as it tended to happen, in a corridor at the Institute. I asked Zenek to pose for me, he agreed, but I remember that his reaction was not really keen.

We did only one shot, taken at 1/15s. A short holding of breath and there it was. As usual, the rest is fixed by time and events that follow such a brief moment. The true force of the photographic image transpires with layers we plaster onto a person's portrait, who endure in the countless forms they leave behind, while being physically absent.

My piece is an allusion to the layers that form within the scope of memory of a human, an artist and their art.
